Does the trademark office use the Nice Classification system?

Yes. Under the Trademarks Act, 2009, the Director General classifies goods and services in accordance with the Nice Classification.

Are 'class-wide' applications allowed, or must specific goods or services be identified?

According to the Trademarks Act, 2009 and Trademark Rules, 2015, an applicant must specify the class of goods or services. While an applicant can apply for all goods or services within a single class, specifying them in the application form is required. The applicant must also indicate whether the mark is currently in use or proposed to be used. If already in use, the date of first use must be mentioned.
